The All New Wacky Bike Ride

The Wacky Bike Ride is back and bigger than ever. The Wacky has grown a lot over the last five years and the original founders of the ride, siblings Susie and Ted Wargin, decided to turn over the Wacky to Project ReCycle this past February.

“We are very proud to be handing over the reins of the Wacky Bike Ride to Project ReCycle. Growing an event takes time and we both find we are having less and less of that these days. We want to see the Wacky grow and have the utmost confidence in AJ, Jeff, and all the great folks at Project ReCycle to make that happen,” said Susie Wargin.

Susie and Ted will continue working with the non-profit to ensure a seamless transition.  And the best part is the two of them will be able to participate this year. “We are most excited about actually riding in our event for the first time this September. We will be riding one of the long distance routes offered and we encourage folks to come join us,” said Ted.

So if you’re feeling up to a challenging ride, come join the sister and brother team on either a 62-miler or a century ride. And if you want something shorter, there’s a ride for everyone. In fact, Project ReCycle added a new 25- miler to the route this year for those who feel 6 miles is not enough time in the saddle and 45 miles is too much.

Project ReCycle is celebrating this new venture by launching a campaign to commemorate and give former Wacky riders a chance to win some freebies. Just by wearing an old Wacky jersey while out riding, if you’re spotted by a Wacky Ambassador, you could win some cool cycling gear such as… a Wacky cap, beanie, or visor, or short or long cycling socks.

This year, the Wacky Bike Ride falls on Sunday, September 11. Project ReCycle is honoring all of those that lost their lives on that tragic day by listing their names on the 2016 jersey. So you too can honor them while wearing this jersey on your ride.

This event promises to be a day of fun and fitness; each registration fee will benefit Project ReCycle and there will be route support, aid stations, and tasty food and drinks with an expo at the day’s end. Hope to see you out there!
